Letter # 70 - This fragment is undated, but it is a letter of condolence to Jan Rubingh and his family on the death of Janís daughter Mietje. Since we know she died in childbirth on March 28, 1891, the letter must be dated in April of that year. The authors are Janís sister Marchien and her children Grietje and Berendina.
-------at least the ones known to us, such as ....Veltkamp and his family, and Vonks if you meet them. And are you far from Mrs. Dominee Kuiper and Mrs. Dominee Bos? Greet them for me. Also greetings from Mrs. Dominee Kuik. When she visits the old folks, she has so much to tell.
Now Iíve written you one thing or another in the hope that you may receive them in good health. Receive heartfelt greetings from your loving Sister and Aunt.
To my dear Uncle and Aunt and cousins,
Dear Uncle and Aunt and cousins, I am in good health and my heartfelt wish is that you may be experiencing the same privilege. It pains us much that our oldest cousin Mietje has died. But we live in the hope that she is much better with her Lord and Savior, where there is no pain, no trouble, and no sorrow anymore. Even though we cannot see one another on this side of the grave, we have hope that we may see each other on the other side on of the grave.
Dear Uncle and Aunt, I know of no news to write you. Our Berendina will write you tomorrow because it is too late now. Has Betje already finished school? Dear Uncle and Aunt and cousins, if you write us, could Betje also write us? Now dear Uncle and Aunt and Cousins, heartfelt greetings from your loving Cousin, Grietje Dekker
Dear Uncle and Aunt and Cousins, I am in good health and my heartfelt wish is that you may experience the same privilege. It saddens us greatly since we understood from your letter that our dear cousin Mietje has died. Dear Uncle and Aunt, I have no news to write to you. This afternoon I went again to my sewing. Today we received a letter from our Father that he had not yet left; the wind was not yet favorable. Now dear Uncle and Aunt and cousins, you are heartily greeted by your loving cousin, Berendina Dekker.
P.S. The greetings from Aunt Tryntje; she is with us today.
